I'm just reminicing a little bit. A book was even written about them. A play here and there and the Wave wins 6 State championships. But the winning streak will be hard to top around here. Getting back to the original topic, baseball is a more complex sport, so I go with Wise.
Kelly has more titles, Kelly has the chance to win more titles. It's a toss up, dont know how you could decide, PV plays one bad game and loses to many times a top 5 team in the state in the Region and there done. If Kelly does the same thing they still go to the state tournament. Mega made the point on split divisions, it works both ways. JJ Kelly is a D2 school, they can play D1 schools to get to state, PV cant. The 90's were the decade, people didn't realize what they were watching, PV was great, JJ Kelly was great, and Appy was great. I really dont think we'll see that again, I do however think we'll have two teams in Salem this year, PV and JI Burton. Sadly, I think both will lose again, PV getting beat worse than JI Burton. The sports are just different, it's much more difficult to make the playoffs in football and win state compared to other sports just due to the simple fact that it's one and done. It's the only high school sport in that format. If you want to talk about a pure LPD Dynast look at PV Track, God knows what their record looks like.

Clintwood won 3 state titles didn't they?
Yep. 74,75,78. Lost to Madison Co. in 73. 76 could've been the best team, but Pennington beats them in overtime in Region D final.
Did Pennington ever win state? I remember they beat PV in the playoffs in '87, I think. Got beat the next week, though.

No, the best they ever did was runner-up. I believe that was the 76 team that Burrhead just mentioned. Coach Williams wrote a book called "Almost Glory" about it.
Only Cumberland team to win a football title was Jonesville. They won in the last year of the school's existence playing at Bullitt park.
Didn't Jonesville beat Appy that year on a last second hail mary in the first round?
I think the mentality of a Kelly baseball player is what set them apart from other local teams (especially over the past 30 some years), the same can be said for PV in football. We had some good players, but everyone on the field complimented each other so well and we actually did a pretty good job of picking each other for the most part.
We'd win the district and Mack would have us back at the field to take BP before it got too late. Even winning regions wasn't accepted it was expected. I thought college ball was fun and all, but it could not compare to playing with guys I grew up with.
I think a better title for this topic would be who is cockier (on the field)? PV football players or Kelly baseball players.
PV has never won a State Championship in a year that Appy has beaten them...the years they have won it all, on most occasions the Appy game wasn't close..there are 2 exceptions in the 90's tho...PV barely got by Appy a couple of times then.
